LA Classes

Writing assignment: In class we worked on three stories: The Monkey's Paw, The Fog Horn, and Tell Tale Heart. The stories did not have a definitive ending, hence the purpose of the mystery. So, the writing assignment is to choose one of the stories and write a more traditional ending. Stories should be 1-2 written pages, use the same characters from the original story, use new vocabulary from the stories, use a simile or metaphor and be proofread and edited before passing the assignment in. Stories can be found online and the assignment is due this Thursday.

You are traveling somewhere in the world and you can’t believe your eyes, it is him/her. You become nervous and excited, you have to talk to this person. You approach them and...

The assignment is to show how to use quotation marks through dialogue. In your story you have to have a very brief conversation with a person of your choice. The person and yourself should talk no more than four times each. Remember: every time you change speakers, you must change paragraphs.

The assignment should be one to two written pages and is due on Friday.

Example: A Rod was paid 33 000 000 for the 2010 baseball season. In that season he played in about 135 games, which meant he would earn about $240,000 per game.

Assignments:

1. Journal Entry: "My First Week at SIS" was supposed to be passed in yesterday. Success club will be assigned for those who do not have the assignment completed.

2. Creative Writing: "Secret Passage" Students are to write a 1-2 page story about their adventures of finding a secret passage. The passage can take them anywhere and anything they want can happen. The assignment is due Friday, September 17.

The stories we have covered thus far are: The Phantom Dog Team, Four Men and a Box, From Behind the Red Line, Brother Leon, and Alfred the Great. The two remaining stories we will be working on will be The Friday that Everything Changed and Antaeus.

The grammar is comma usage: in a series, compound sentences, quotations, appositives, using little words at the beginning of sentences and addressing someone directly.
